Zakharova: Turkish accusations over refugee issue absurd, an attempt to avoid responsibility

Moscow, SANA – Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Friday that the statements made by Turkish officials regarding the refugee crisis are absurd and constitute an attempt to avoid responsibility.

Commenting over a statement made by Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davotuglu, in which he blamed Russia for the cases of refugees drowning in the Aegean Sea due to its support for the Syrian government and its vetoing of UN resolutions on Syria, Zakharova said that “such absurd accusations are nothing but an attempt by Ankara to avoid responsibility for the deaths of these and many other Syrians.”

She added that Davotuglu’s attempt to blame Russia and even the Security Council for the drowning of Syrian refugees near Turkish shores is a case of confusing case and effect, underling the fact that Turkey is providing all sorts of support to extremist and terrorist groups in Syria.
