Peskov dismisses media claims about what has taken place during meeting between Putin and Kerry

Moscow, SANA- Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov denied allegations by some US media outlets that Russian President Vladimir Putin made a request to involve President Bashar al-Assad in proposed elections in 2017 during a meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Moscow.

Peskov said in a statement to reporters on Wednesday that these claims are baseless, noting that during the meeting with Kerry, the two sides discussed the prospects of a political settlement in Syria and the multi-stage process for it, with President Putin stressing that the future of Syria can’t be decided upon by sides from outside Syria since the Syrian people are the one who decides their country’s future.

Bloomberg had quoted what they called “informed sources” that President Putin assured the US Secretary of the need to involve President al-Assad in the proposed 2017 elections and that Putin affirmed his conviction that al-Assad would win the elections if he participated in them.
