Sweida, SANA _ The Golan Cycling Races for female and male cyclists continued on Wednesday in Sweida province, with 11 male and 6 female teams representing the provinces of Damascus, Damascus countryside, Hama, Homs, Aleppo, Lattakia, Quneitra and Sweida taking part.
The competitions kicked off in Sweida on Tuesday.
Today’s races featured the first phase of the male categories in a 80-km race, in which 51 cyclists from 10 teams representing 7 provinces participated.
Yelmaz Habash came out first in the men’s category, followed by Nazir al-Jassem (Damascus) and Youssef Srouji (Aleppo).
In the under-23 category, Omar al-Halabi (Damascus), won the first place while Nabil al-Laham (Damascus) came out second and Mohammad Fadwan Nwaiser (Hama) third.
Yaroub al-Kassem, Lattakia, came ahead in the youth category, followed by Mazen Kalziyeh, (Aleppo) and Ahmad al-Atrash, (Lattakia).
Meanwhile, in the junior male cyclists’ category, Ahd al-Hama (Sweida) won the first place, Fahd Arbash (Hama) came out second and Amin Safadi (Sweida) third.
Chairman of the General Sports Union Mwaffaq Jom’aa told SANA the races are a celebration of President Bashar al-Assad’s win in 3 June presidential elections.
