Damascus, SANA – Ninth Grade school students were evacuated from the terrorists-besieged Yarmouk Camp neighborhood in southern Damascus on Thursday to be able to take their Basic Education final exams scheduled for next Sunday.
Weeks ago, the neighborhood, which has been besieged since 2012, came under an attack by terrorists of the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) who were allowed into the neighborhood by Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organization.
The attack forced many residents to flee their homes after ISIS terrorists committed acts of killings and destruction in the neighborhood.
The evacuation process was done through the neighboring Yalda town, which has so far hosted hundreds of fleeing residents, while others were accommodated in Babila and Bait Sahm towns.
The General Authority for Palestine Arab Refugees (GAPAR) and the United Nations Relief and Work Agency (UNRWA) carried out the evacuation, supported by the Syrian government and the Higher Committee for Relief.
GAPAR Director-General Ali Mustafa said in a statement to SANA that the students will be accommodated in makeshift residential places and be provided all services and needs.
