Tehran, SANA – Speaker of Iran’s Shura Council Ali Larijani stressed on Wednesday that Iran will support Syria and will provide everything necessary to consolidate its steadfastness in the face of the unfair war waged against it.
He was speaking during a meeting with Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Armed Forces, Defense Minister Fahd Jassem al-Freij.
Larijani asserted that Syria will emerge victorious, and that Iran will always support it and help it confront terrorism, noting that Syria managed to remain steadfast despite all the conspiracies and the unlimited support provided to terrorism, adding that some sides’ hostile attitude towards Syria is shifting due to their fear of ISIS and other terrorist organziaitons.
In turn, al-Freij stressed the importance of coordination and cooperation in all fields, including economic and military fields, affirming that the Syrian government had always called for inter-Syrian dialogue away from foreign interference and that it is committed to delivering aid to all those who need it across the country.
Al-Freij also discussed with Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani mechanisms of boosting the joint action of Iran and Syria to confront the challenges facing the region, in addition to discussing means to enhance strategic cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Shamkhani stressed the need to support Syria and foil the plots of its enemies and their terrorist pawns that threaten the entire region, while al-Freij pointed out to the constant attempts by some states to violate Syria’s sovereignty by supporting terrorists, asserting that Syrians are determined to eradicate terrorism across their country and lauding the support provided by Iran to Syria.
Later, al-Freij held a joint press conference with Iranian counterpart Hossein Dehghan following a second round of talks, with the two sides voicing determination to combat terrorism and pursue bilateral cooperation, asserting that their viewpoints were in agreement regarding the issues in the region.
Al-Freij said the talks he held with Dahghan focused on confirming a number of steps and how to deal with the escalation that has been happening in recent months, adding that the two sides are in agreement on future steps for confronting terrorism.
