Tehran, SANA – Iran reiterated Wednesday that President Bashar al-Assad is a key part of any political solution to the crisis in Syria.
The remarks were made by Iranian Assistant Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir Abdullahian to the Iranian IRNA news agency.
He also said that President al-Assad’s role in maintaining national unity and fighting terrorism cannot be ignored.
While reaffirming Tehran’s constant support for the Syrian people and its attitude of backing a political settlement, Abdullahian said his country pays great attention to the Syrian leadership and popular resistance as well as the demands of the national and independent opposition.
He said terrorism in Syria has failed and is approaching its end, stressing that establishing stability in the region is not possible without having Syria secured.
