Damascus, SANA- Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Chairman of the Higher Relief Committee, Eng. Hussein Makhlouf discussed with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi and his accompanying delegation ways of support and assistance provided by the UN High Commission for Refugees to face the effects of the earthquake that resulted in human and material losses in the affected governorates.
Makhlouf noted that the measures taken to face the effects of the earthquake focused initially on rescue, removal of rubble, providing health services and shelter.
The Minister hoped that UNHCR’s support in these circumstances, in particular shelter projects, rehabilitation of the houses of the affected people, infrastructure and livelihood support, would be expanded.
Makhlouf affirmed the continuation of coordination with all partners, which contributes to the development of a joint work program that achieves tangible results.
Grandi stressed the readiness to provide support to the operating rooms in the affected governorates, as work and communication takes place with partners and donors in order to increase the resources provided to cover all needs.
He praised the decisions taken by the Syrian government in terms of opening crossings to facilitate the arrival of aid to the northwestern regions.
