Patriarch Aphrem: There are no “moderate” terrorists, I appreciate Syrian army’s sacrifices

New Delhi, SANA – Mar Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All East and Supreme Leader of the Syriac Orthodox Church, said he highly appreciates the sacrifices of the Syrian army in protecting Syria and its people against the terrorist organizations.

Speaking in an interview given to SANA correspondent in the Indian capital of New Delhi, the Patriarch said none in Syria and Iraq were spared the acts of the foreign-backed terrorist organizations, which have reached all people regardless of their ethnic or religious identities.

Syria is surely going to achieve victory and eliminate terrorism, he stressed. “Syria will remain a place of security and stability for all its people.”

Patriarch Aphrem said his two-week visit to India has been “successful”, during which he said he conveyed to Indian officials the suffering and pain which the Syrian people have to put up with at the hands of the terrorist organizations.

Top among those officials, he noted, were India’s president and prime minister and leader of the opposition Sonia Gandhi, to whom Patriarch Aphrem voiced his thanks over the Indian position in support of Syria.

India’s stance, he said, is not biased despite the pressure on New Delhi, unlike the positions of the Western countries and the US.

The Patriarch affirmed in the interview that terrorism is one and the same, and that there is no such thing as “moderate terrorists”, rejecting the Western and U.S. claims suggesting such a notion.
