Syria, Iran discuss cooperation in health sector

Tehran, SANA- Syria’s Ambassador in Tehran, Dr. Shafiq Dayoub on Tuesday discussed with Rector of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) Dr. Jalil Koohpayehzadeh means of enhancing bilateral cooperation between the IUMS and the medical, therapeutic and scientific centers in Syria and upgrading this cooperation to the level of remarkable strategic political relations between Syria and Iran.

During the meeting, Ambassador Dayoub pointed out that terrorism has targeted the infrastructure of the health sector in Syria over the years of the war, asserting that the Syrian State is using all its potentials to ensure the medical, pharmaceutical and therapeutic requirements for the citizens and to rehabilitate what the war has destroyed.

He added that the bilateral cooperation and exchange of expertise in this significant sector are important because the two sides have capabilities on both sides that complete each other, particularly that the two countries have been subjected to unjust sanctions and unfair coercive measures in various fields, mainly the medical and therapeutic sector in light of the outbreak of the Corona virus pandemic.

Dayoub also pointed out to the importance of cooperation in the medical and therapeutic sectors, particularly the medical education, dentistry, pharmacy and courses, nursing due to the important role in the daily life of citizens.

For his part, Koohpayehzadeh expressed his university’s readiness to provide its educational, therapeutic and medical services for the Syrian side and to wok along with the therapeutic sectors in Syria, noting that the unjust war has caused large damage to the health structure in it.

He indicated the importance of the virtual education and continued coordination among the medical centers in Iran and Syria to serve the interests of both countries.
