Vienna, SANA- Syriac Orthodox Patriarch of Antioch and All East Mar Ignatius Aphrem II called upon Austrian President Heinz Fischer and Austrian politicians and clergymen to “work and contribute to finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria.
“Heading a delegation from the Syriac Church, Patriarch Aphrem II met President Fischer in Vienna where both sides reviewed the situation of the Christians in the Middle East, particularly in Syria and Iraq,” the Patriarchate of Syriac Orthodox of Antioch and All East said in press a statement.
“During the meeting, Patriarch Aphrem demanded finding a political solution to the crisis in Syria through political relations and diplomatic means to end suffering of the Syrian people and restore peace and security to the country,” the statement added.
The statement went on saying that Patriarch Aphrem “also called for assistance in the cases of Metropolitan of Aleppo and Iskenderun for Greek Orthodox Bishop Paul Yazigi and Metropolitan of Aleppo for Syriac Orthodox Bishop Yohanna Ibrahim,” who were kidnapped by the armed terrorist groups in Syria two years ago.
