Hama, SANA – Prime Minister Imad Khamis launched a national strategic project for agricultural development in Syria with an initial budget of SYP 5 billion for the first year, with the strategy starting in al-Ghab area.
The strategy depends on take advantage of arable lands for agricultural production of crops and livestock through both the public and private sectors, focusing on household agriculture, the rural women project, and household production of poultry and fish.
The strategy emphasizes supporting the strategic crops along with securing the requirements of production for farmers and citizens.
The national strategy includes a plan for securing the needs of agriculture sector such as fertilizers, insecticides, modern irrigation equipment, fuel, and agricultural machinery.
Minister of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform Ahmad al-Qadiri underlined the most important features of the national strategy in al-Ghab region which is divided into two stages: strategic and immediate, with concentration on rehabilitating the irrigation networks and revitalizing the livestock resources, in addition to establishing facilities for producing dairy and cheese products.
