Parliamentary Forum starts activities in New York with participation of Syrian delegation

SANA- The Parliamentary Forum which the International Parliamentary Union called for holding as a part of its contribution to the High-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development has started activities at the UN headquarters in New York with the participation of a delegation from the People’s Assembly.

During its sessions over the past two days, the Parliamentary Forum discussed the partnerships between the governments, parliaments, international organizations, labor unions, local administrations, private sector, and the academic institutions and circles and ways to activate these partnerships for guaranteeing the achievement of the goals sustainable development plan for the year 2030.

The main session of the Forum will be held on Monday and it will be followed by a workshop for assessing the readiness of the participating parliaments and the role of the parliamentarians in enacting laws, budgeting, censorship and representation of constituencies in implementing sustainable development goals, discussing participatory decision-making mechanisms and the role of effective institutions.

The High-level Political Forum for Sustainable Development is held under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council under the title “Empowering People and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality”.

The International Parliamentary Union called for holding a number of meetings and workshops to give the opportunity for the parliamentarians who are participating in the High-level Political Forum to discuss issues related to forum and to exchanging expertise on implementing the goals of the sustainable development.
