Tehran, SANA – UN Special Envoy for Syria said it is up to the Syrian people alone to determine the future of their country, stressing on a political solution to the ongoing crisis in Syria.
Speaking to the Iranian IRNA news agency, Staffan de Mistura said he discussed with Iran’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Syria’s neighbor, Mohammad Fathali the situation and latest developments in both countries where he stressed that a solution to the crisis in Syria is a political one.
De Mistura noted in his statement, published on Friday, that he discussed during his meeting with Fathali the visit he will pay to Tehran, his next stop after Beirut within his tour in the region.
The visit’s program and the scheduled meetings which the UN Envoy will hold with Iranian officials were touched upon during the meeting in Beirut, with De Mistura saying that the talks in Tehran will be focused on means to solve the crisis in Syria politically.
