Al-Jaafari reiterates call on UN member states to vote against Saudi draft resolution on Syria

New York, SANA-Syria’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dr. Bashar al-Jaafari reiterated call on the member states to vote against the Saudi draft resolution on the human rights situation in Syria, urging them to stand their ground in the face of Saudi intimidation and cajolery tactics.

During a meeting of the Third Committee of the UN General Assembly, al-Jaafari mocked Saudi Arabia human rights record. “Saudi Arabia has not heard the term Human Rights except in this hall,” he said.

“Saudi Arabia falls back on fatwas (religious edicts) to cover up its human rights abuses. It is nothing but a small window dressing behind which its operatives and countries hostile to Syria work,” he pointed out.

Al-Jaafari added that Saudi authorities have been preventing the Syrian citizens from performing al-Haj rituals for the eighth year in a row, violating a basic human right which is the right to observe religious rituals.

Al-Jaafari added that Syria rejects the Saudi draft resolution which violates the powers of the Third Committee of the General Assembly, indicating that the Saudi authorities are trying to use the third committee for propaganda campaigns aimed at harming Syria and using this play for purposes having nothing to do with human rights.
