Al-Qadam train station inaugurated

Damascus, SANA – Under the patronage of President Bashar al-Assad, Transport Minister Ali Hammoud inaugurated al-Qadam train station after its rehabilitation.

The train station was repaired and renovated using local expertise after being out of service for seven years. The Fairgrounds station, established to service Damascus International Fair, was also inaugurated. 34 trips will run each day between the two stations during the Fair.

Minister Hammoud said that in addition to work on the two stations, 18 kilometers of railway were also repaired, with the rehabilitation of al-Qadam station being carried out within 9 months.

He said that there are many promising projects in rehabilitating the railways system in Syria, including a project connecting Syria and Iraq.

For his part, Director General of Syrian Railways Najib al-Fares said al-Qadam station is the main train station connecting various provinces, and that the Transport Ministry is working to repair the Damascus-Homs-Hama-Aleppo line which will resume operations within a year at the most.
