Ancient underground tunnel uncovered beneath Lattakia National Museum

Lattakia, SANA – The Lattakia Archeology Department uncovered an ancient underground tunnel beneath the National Museum in the city, extending from the east to the beach in the west.

Head of the Department Ibrahim Kheir Bek said that excavations began at a depressed area in the museum which was covered in dirt in the museum’s grounds, and that work is underway to find out how the tunnel was constructed, the age it dates back it, and whether or not it’s connected to other tunnels or secret chambers or vaults.
