Ambassador Ala: Mandela embodies all principles that must be preserved in today’s world

Geneva, SANA – Syria’s Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Ambassador Hussam Eddin Ala said that the South African freedom fighter Nelson Mandela represented in his struggle all the principles that must be preserved in today’s world, and he paid a heavy price at the expense of his freedom and his personal life to defend his noble positions.

In a speech during a session on Friday at the Human Rights Council to mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Mandela, Ala said that Syria agrees with the statement made by Venezuela on behalf of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) on holding a high-level meeting to mark this anniversary.

The ambassador pointed out that Mandela’s life is proof that the regimes based on supremacy, racism, and hegemony cannot last.

He also lauded Mandela’s support for just causes, and for his rejection of the Israeli occupation of the Arab lands and the US invasion of Iraq.
