Damascus, SANA – A lecture entitled “Music, Therapy and Culture” reviewed an experience in music therapy and the healing power of music and its role in improving cognitive ability, reducing stress levels and curing different types of diseases, particularly neurological disorders.
Musician, Juan Qara Joly, delivering the lecture at the Arab Cultural Center in Abu Rummaneh, said that the music can make the time pass more quickly and lessen feelings of fatigue, depression, loneliness and tension, giving examples about housewives, athletes, travelers and patients in the clinic waiting room or before undergoing a surgical procedure.
He noted that healing through music is proved as effective method of treatment for several neurological diseases as it helps muscle and nerve relaxation, adding that the duration of treatment extends from two weeks to longer periods of time depending on the situation of the patient.
Qara Joly screened a video showing the improvement achieved in the case of a little girl who lost her sight and the ability to speak after six months of receiving music therapy.
