People’s Assembly discusses performance of Culture Ministry

Damascus, SANA – The People’s Assembly discussed in its session on Thursday the performance of the Ministry of Culture and issues related to its work.

Culture Minister Mohammad al-Ahmad reviewed at the beginning of the session the work plan of the ministry during 2017, which he said will focus on several tracks, mainly how to face the Takfiri terrorist mentality through cultural activities and events and all artistic productions, including, films, drama series, plays and books.

He called for increasing financial allocations to the Ministry to match the huge resources it has, stressing that the Ministry has a storehouse including more than 20,000 priceless plastic art pictures and amounts of archeological pieces and items worth millions of dollars.

Al-Ahmad referred to the Ministry’s recent establishing of the Higher Institute for Cinema and holding of an archeological conference that was attended by remarkable international figures and focused on the threat posed to the archeological sites and monuments in Syria and the destruction and damage caused to museums and antiquities due to the terrorist organizations, particularly in Palmyra.
