Syrian-Turkish talks to restore 59 schools

Damascus, SANA – Director of School Buildings at the Ministry of Education, Engineer Mohammed Al-Hanoun, discussed Sunday with the representatives of the Turkish Embassy in Damascus the mechanisms to start rehabilitating 59 schools distributed in the provinces and equip them for the start of the new academic year.

Al-Hanoun pointed out during the meeting that the renovation process will start immediately in 59 schools, and will later follow the restoration operations to include the remaining 100 schools to be expanded later to ensure their readiness to accommodate students in a manner consistent with the requirements of the upcoming academic year.

The meeting is based on a needs assessment conducted in coordination with the Turkish Embassy, which included assessing the needs of 100 schools in various provinces.

The Ministry’s School Buildings Directorate has restored and rehabilitated about 200 of the 8,000 schools out of service in Syria since the liberation of Syria.
