Minister of Information, UNESCO delegation discuss ways to promote press freedom and cultural heritage revival

Damascus, SANA-Minister of Information, Dr. Hamza al-Mustafa, held discussions with a delegation from the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) on ways to enhance press freedom and revive the cultural and historical heritage of Syrian cities.

During a meeting at the ministry headquarters on Tuesday, the minister and the delegation—led by Margaux Bergeon-Dars, Director of the Office of the UNESCO Director-General—explored prospects for cooperation in safeguarding the national archive across various sectors of the Ministry of Information.

The talks also covered digital transformation efforts, specialized training programs to counter hate speech and sectarian incitement, and collaboration in combating misleading content.

For her part, the UNESCO representative proposed signing a memorandum of understanding with the Syrian Ministry of Information to initiate joint action plans various fields.
