Damascus, May.4 (SANA) Under Secretary General for National Society Development and Operations Coordination at the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) Xavier Castellanos Mosquera concluded a three-day field visit to Syria on Monday.
During the visit the delegation assessed humanitarian needs, particularly in affected areas witnessing the return of displaced families, as well as the humanitarian activities led by the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) to address those needs and support recovery and stability.
Mosquera was accompanied during the visit by Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, Cristian Cortés Cardoza. Their tour covered several affected neighborhoods in Harasta, in the Damascus countryside, where they met residents to assess their conditions and the daily challenges they face.
The delegation also visited, accompanied by Director General for International Affairs and Migration at the Turkish Red Crescent, Alper Küçük, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent’s ambulance and community services centers in Douma, in the Damascus countryside, where they met volunteers and expressed appreciation for their efforts and courage, praising them as essential to sustaining life-saving humanitarian activities under the most difficult conditions.
As part of the visit, Mosquera also reviewed with Syrian Arab Red Crescent President Hazem Beqleh ways to strengthen humanitarian partnership, with the aim of supporting the recovery of returnees in a safe environment that promotes stability and the restoration of normal life.
IFRC President Kate Forbes visited Syria on February 13, during which she toured several Syrian Arab Red Crescent centers and facilities and held meetings with the organization’s leadership, representatives of the Syrian government, and several representatives of international humanitarian organizations operating in Syria.
