Washington, Feb. 18 (SANA) U.S. police said they thwarted an attempt by an armed 18-year-old man to storm the Capitol and arrested him.
U.S. Capitol Police Chief Michael Sullivan told reporters early Wednesday that the suspect stopped a Mercedes SUV near the Capitol and then ran toward the building before officers intercepted him and ordered him to lie on the ground.
The suspect was carrying a loaded rifle and wearing a bulletproof vest and gloves, Sullivan said, adding that a helmet and gas mask were found in the vehicle.
Sullivan said the motive remains under investigation, including whether members of Congress were the intended targets.
In October, authorities arrested a man after his car struck a security barrier at one of the entrances to the White House.
