Iraq strongly condemns the Israeli bombing of Damascus

Baghdad, SANA- Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs firmly condemned the Israeli shelling of Damascus, stating that it is a clear breach of international law and legitimacy.

The Iraqi Foreign Ministry expressed the Republic of Iraq’s strong condemnation of the bombing that targeted the Syrian capital, Damascus, carried out by the Israeli entity, in a flagrant and repeated violation of the provisions of international law and international legitimacy resolutions, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

The ministry affirmed in its statement its “complete rejection of endangering the lives of Syrian civilians and exacerbating their humanitarian suffering,” stressing the “necessity of halting the escalation, as it poses a direct threat to the security and stability of the region.”

The ministry reiterated Iraq’s firm stance rejecting any attacks that violate the sovereignty of states, warning of the dangers of the Israeli entity’s resorting to using pretexts or justifications as a cover to achieve expansionist goals that undermine stability in the region.

It called on the international community to assume its legal and humanitarian responsibilities to put an end to these repeated violations, and to work to ensure that they are not repeated, in a manner that contributes to strengthening regional and international security and peace.

The ministry emphasized the importance of protecting the rights of all components of the Syrian people, preserving their dignity, and ensuring their safety in light of the difficult humanitarian situation in Syria.
