A Ceasefire Agreement reached in Sweida, Deployment of Security Checkpoints and its Full Integration into the State

Damascus, SANA- Interior Ministry announced Wednesday it reached an agreement of ceasefire in Sweida, deploy security checkpoints in the province and fully integrate it into the Syrian state.

The Ministry said in the announcement: “As part of efforts to restore security and stability in Sweida city, to meet the demands of our people there, and to affirm the Syrian state’s commitment to the rights of all its citizens” the ceasefire was reached.

The terms of the ceasefire agreement include the following:

  1. A complete cessation of all military operations immediately, and a commitment by all parties to halt military escalation or any form of attack against security forces and their checkpoints.
  2. A monitoring committee composed of representatives from the Syrian state and honorable sheikhs will be formed to oversee the implementation of the ceasefire and ensure compliance.
  3. Deployment of internal security and police checkpoints from the state, as well as police personnel from Sweida Governorate, throughout the city and neighboring areas, with the aim of enhancing security and protecting citizens.
  4. Recruiting competent and honorable police officers and personnel from Sweida Governorate to assume leadership and executive positions in managing the security situation in Sweida Governorate.
  5. Respecting the sanctity of homes and the lives of civilians, refraining from harming any home or private property within the city or any area of Sweida Governorate, while committing to protecting them from any attacks or vandalism.
  6. Agreeing on a mechanism to regulate heavy weapons in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Defense, ensuring the elimination of weapons outside the framework of the state, in coordination with local and religious leaders and dignitaries, while taking into account the social and historical specificity of Sweida Governorate.
  7. Full integration of Sweida into the Syrian state, affirming the full sovereignty of the Syrian state over all of Sweida Governorate, including the restoration and activation of all state institutions on the ground.
  8. Reactivating all state institutions in all areas of Sweida in accordance with Syrian laws and regulations.
  9. Guaranteeing the rights of all citizens in Sweida through laws that guarantee justice and equality among all spectrum of Syrian society and support civil peace.
  10. Forming a joint fact-finding committee to investigate into the crimes, violations, and abuses that occurred and identify those responsible. Compensate those affected and restore rights to their owners in accordance with applicable laws and regulations as quickly as possible.
  11. Secure Damascus-Sweida road by the state and ensure the safety of travelers.
  12. Immediately work to provide all basic services to the governorate, including water, electricity, fuel, and health.
  13. Work to release detainees and reveal the fate of those missing in the recent events immediately.
  14. Forming a joint committee to monitor the implementation of the provisions of this agreement.

The Ministry of Interior emphasized that this agreement is an important step toward rebuilding trust between the people of Sweida and the Syrian state, and ensuring their security and stability. It added, “Our goal is for Syria to remain united, strong, and safe for all its people, including our citizens in Sweida, who will remain an essential part of this beloved homeland.”
