Damascus, SANA – Syrian Minister of Education Dr. Mohammad Abdul Rahman Turko discussed Thursday with a delegation from the European Union Delegation, headed by Chargé d’Affaires Michael Unmacht, ways to enhance cooperation and coordination in the education sector.
During the meeting, held at the ministry building in Damascus, Minister Turko voiced his appreciation for the efforts made by the European Union Delegation to support the educational process in Syria, noting that the ministry has developed a strategic plan and an emergency response plan to improve the educational situation, focusing on four key elements: teachers, students, curricula, and school buildings.
Minister Turko pointed out that 7,900 schools, representing 40% of Syria’s 19,000 schools, have been destroyed, and that there is an urgent need for rapid restoration to enable schools to fully restore their services.
For his part, the EU delegation expressed its readiness to strengthen cooperation and communication with the ministry and to learn about its vision for overcoming the challenges facing the education sector, he also expressed his readiness to continue supporting the ministry’s plan for vocational training.
