New York, SANA- UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, expressed the United Nations’ readiness to mobilize rapid support for the Syrian government and communities affected by the fires raging in rural Latakia.

“U.N. teams are conducting urgent assessments to determine the scale of the disaster and to identify the most immediate humanitarian needs,” the UN News Center quoted Abdelmoula as saying on Sunday.

He expressed the UN’s readiness to deploy an inter-agency mission to Latakia, in coordination with the authorities and partners, to further assess the situation and explore immediate and long-term support.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting the local authorities and providing timely, initial assistance to all affected communities, ensuring that urgent needs are met quickly and effectively,” Abdelmoula added.

The U.N Coordinator commended the exceptional courage and dedication of firefighters and first responders risking their lives in extremely difficult conditions, as well as the rapid support provided by neighboring countries to help contain the fires.
