Emergency Ministry, the Missing Persons Authority in Syria discuss challenges and joint cooperation

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed Al-Saleh discussed Wednesday with the head of the National Commission for Missing Persons in Syria, Mohammad Reza Jalkhi, ways to enhance joint cooperation, the commission’s work mechanism, and the challenges facing it.

During the meeting , the two sides stressed that the missing persons file is an integral part of the path to justice and truth in Syria, and an important step towards holding the criminal Assad regime and its allies accountable for the grave violations they have committed against thousands of Syrian families.

Al-Saleh pointed out that the ministry is ready to provide all types of assistance, including files and expertise gained by the ministry’s cadres over the past long years of work in the Civil Defense Organization, during which they were able to document many cases of loss and provide support to the families of the missing within the framework of the Justice and Accountability Program.

For his part, Jalkhi stressed that it is important and necessary to work to uncover the fate of the missing, as it is a human right that is imprescriptible, a national duty that cannot be postponed, and a societal responsibility for all Syrians.

On May 17, President Ahmad al-Sharaa issued a decree establishing the National Commission for Missing Persons, tasked with investigating and uncovering the fate of missing and forcibly disappeared persons, documenting cases, establishing a national database, and providing legal and humanitarian support to their families.
