Local Administration and Environment Ministry explores support for detainees’ needs

Damascus, SANA-Deputy Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Dhafer Mohammad al-Omar, held and the head of the Syrian Revolution Detainees Association, Dr. Mohammad Nasser Khairallah, explored ways to address the needs of former detainees and provide them with support through available resources—particularly via the Directorate of Councils and Local Development—and to create employment opportunities for them.

The meeting, held Monday at the Ministry’s headquarters, also included discussions on identifying and replacing public facility symbols associated with the defunct regime, substituting them with culturally, socially, historically, and politically relevant alternatives based on new standards and principles.

Al-Omar emphasized the importance of the Association taking an active role in society and fulfilling its responsibilities, especially as Syria navigates a transitional phase requiring collective national efforts.

For his part, Khairallah noted that the Association maintains a database on detainees and families of the missing. He said it is working to coordinate with government bodies and institutions to reintegrate former detainees into society by facilitating employment opportunities across the public and private sectors, utilizing available skills, experience, and human resources.
