Husariya: CBS will work to maximize benefit from U.S. license to support monetary stability

Damascus, SANA- Governor of the Central Bank of Syria (CBS), Dr. Abdul Qader Husariya, has affirmed that the issuance of General License No. 25 by the U.S. Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) is an important step and a notable development in addressing the sanctions imposed on Syria, particularly those that directly affected the Central Bank of Syria (CBS).

In a statement published on his Facebook page, Dr. Husariya said: “We are following with great interest the details of this license and the potential it holds for alleviating some of the restrictions that have long impacted the national banking and economic sectors.”

He emphasized that the Central Bank will cooperate with the authorities concerned to derive the maximum benefit from this license in a manner that serves the national interest, supports monetary stability, facilitates remittances, and secures the basic needs of citizens.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Syria added: “We are working and looking forward to more steps to remove all banks operating in Syria from the sanctions list, leading to the complete lifting of sanctions, thereby allowing our financial and banking sector to fulfill its mandated role in reconstruction and achieving economic growth.”
