Tirana, SANA-Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on the European Union to lift sanctions on Syria and support reconstruction efforts.
“The announcement by US President Donald Trump to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria is an extremely valuable step toward achieving prosperity there as soon as possible.” Anadolu News Agency quoted Erdogan as saying in a speech Friday during the plenary session of the 6th summit of the “European Political Community” in the Albanian capital Tirana.
The Turkish President added ‘With this decision, President Trump has once again proven his commitment to achieving stability and development in the region, and we hope that this move will serve as a model for other countries.”.
Erdogan expressed his hope that the European Union will take the initiative to lift the sanctions imposed on the former regime without delay, and provide the necessary financial support for reconstruction efforts.
