UN Statement: Lifting sanctions is an opportunity to help Syrians rebuild their country

New York, SANA- United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Adam Abdelmoula, and Regional Humanitarian Coordinator for Syria Crisis, Ramanathan Balakrishnan welcomed US President Donald Trump’s announcement to lift sanctions on Syria, noting that it represents an opportunity to rebuild and stabilize Syria.

In a joint statement, they said, “The decision to lift sanctions, if implemented, has real potential to alleviate the prolonged suffering of millions of Syrians, open tangible prospects for enhancing the delivery of humanitarian aid, and advance early recovery efforts.”

Abdulmoula and Balkrishnen emphasized the need for this development to translate into tangible improvements in the lives of all Syrians, calling on the international community to seize this opportunity to increase funding for the humanitarian response and recovery in Syria in a rapid and sustainable manner that responds to changing needs.
