A meeting at Ministry of Economy and Industry to discuss challenges facing Syrian industry

A meeting at Ministry of Economy and Industry to discuss challenges facing Syrian industry

Damascus, SANA- Minister of Economy and Industry, Mohammed Nidal al-Shaar discussed Thursday, in a meeting held at the Ministry’s headquarters with a number of industry leaders the challenges facing industry and ways to overcome them.

The meeting was attended by directors of institutions, companies, and factories affiliated with the ministry, directors of industrial cities and heads of industrial departments in the governorates, where they discussed the measures to improve the local industry’s ability to meet the needs of the local market and compete in foreign markets.

Minister al-Shaar stressed the need to overcome all obstacles, provide a suitable legislative environment for investment, simplify procedures, eliminate corruption and leakage, and optimally manage resources to advance Syria’s industrial sector.

The new investment system currently being developed for Syria’s industrial cities was also discussed to ensure optimal investment and benefit industrialists and the Ministry in general.

Furthermore, the meeting discussed the situation of factories and industrial facilities in Syria that are suspended or operating with low capacity, such as textile, pharmaceutical, chemical, food, fertilizer, paints and shoes, as a result of the shortage of labour and their need for training, rehabilitation and periodic updating.
