UN welcomes formation of new expanded government in Syria

UN welcomes formation of new expanded government in Syria

New York, SANA-The United Nations (UN) spokesperson, Stéphane Dujarric, has welcomed the unveiling over the formation of a new expanded government in Syria.

“The United Nations Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, encourages the ongoing efforts of Syrian authorities toward a credible, inclusive, and sustainable transition in terms of governance, and also in terms of the next transitional steps,” Dujarric was quoted by the United Nations News Center as saying during a press conference Tuesday.

Dujarric highlighted that Pedersen emphasized the importance of an inclusive political transition that enables the Syrian people to restore their sovereignty, realize their legitimate aspirations, and contribute to regional stability.

Dujarric also announced that Pedersen will visit Damascus soon to continue his engagements with the Syrian authorities.
