Alloush: Preparatory sessions of the National Dialogue Conference aim to listen to citizens' opinions and suggestions on national issues

Homs, SANA-Head of the Preparatory Committee of the National Dialogue Conference, Maher Alloush, announced that the committee began today in Homs the first preparatory sessions for the conference, bearing in mind the historical responsibility at this pivotal stage in Syria’s history.

“This dialogue aims to listen to citizens’ opinions and suggestions on the national issues raised, to transform them into workshops during the conference, in a way that ensures real interaction between the various segments of society,” Alloush said in a statement to SANA.

Alloush added that Syrians have not had a dialogue among themselves for 75 years, and they have not had an actual participation in making political decisions and building their future, and today we have a real opportunity to assume our national responsibilities in shaping the features of the next stage.

“The question of the next day has always been a source of concern for Syrians, as the past has brought many wounds and pains, but today we are facing a critical moment to prove that the future will be brighter and that we are able to overcome challenges and rebuild Syria on solid foundations,” Alloush continued.

The head of the preparatory committee said that our dream is to build a strong State in which every citizen feels proud and dignified, a State based on the principles of justice, freedom and equality, which are the values for which Syrians have sacrificed a lot, and through the preparatory committee we will continue to work to ensure that these aspirations are translated into practical steps.

“The committee has prepared the requirements for the success of the national dialogue, and will continue its meetings in various Syrian governorates to reach working papers that represent all the opinions presented, indicating that representation in the conference includes all segments and components, without relying on percentages related to the number of residents or the size of the components, because the main goal is to ensure comprehensive national participation,” Alloush said.

Alloush pointed out that the axes of the National Conference must lay the foundations for the vocabulary of the upcoming constitution, in addition to addressing accurate diagnoses of the problems of the Syrian State and developing practical solutions for them.

“The conference will discuss fundamental issues such as transitional justice, constitutional construction, reform of public institutions, freedoms, the role of civil society organizations, and economic principles that will form a strong pillar for the future of Syria,” Alloush added.

He said, “We emphasize that the role of the committee is organizational, and our mission is to listen to opinions and ideas without adopting any preconceived position or issuing judgments on them.”.

Alloush concluded, “We want this dialogue to be an open platform for all Syrians, as every citizen has a role in shaping the future of his country.”.
