Al-Shaibani: Syria looking forward to return to Arab League

Damascus, SANA- Syria is looking forward to enhancing joint work with members of the Arab League in various fields, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Asaad al-Shaibani stressed.

Minister al-Shaibani made his statements on Saturday during a joint press conference in Damascus with Arab League Assistant Secretary-General, Hossam Zaki.

Al-Shaibani said “We are also looking forward to the return of Syria to its seat in the Arab League and to attending all events to represent the voice of the free Syrian people. We highly appreciate the firm commitment of Arab countries to the unity of the Syrian territory.”

“The new Syrian administration seeks by all means to ensure a conducive environment for the return of all Syrians, and to provide them with what they need to live a dignified life in their homeland,” the minister clarified.

Al-Shaibani: We call on Arab brothers and members of the Arab League to contribute to reconstruction

Minister al-Shaibani called on the Arab brothers and members of the Arab League to contribute to reconstruction in Syria, especially in the field of energy and infrastructure.

He underlined readiness to offer all facilities to Arab investments in a way that contributes to building the economy and improving the standard of living for the Syrian people.

Al-Shaibani affirmed that the new administration will continue to make all possible efforts to maintain the security and stability of the region, saying “We stand on the threshold of a new stage in which we are looking forward to a bright future based on peace, prosperity and joint cooperation.”

“We renew our call on the international community to reconsider the sanctions imposed on Syria, which stand as an obstacle to recovery, and we affirm that our hands are extended to everyone who seeks to build and serve this country,” the minister said.

He hoped that Syria, alongside its Arab brothers, will strengthen the effective Arab role and Arab positions after its absence for 14 years.

“We saw in the Riyadh conference a great support and honorable stances by the Arab countries, and there is a great desire and happiness for Syria’s return to the Arab fold,” the minister concluded.

Zaki: There is widespread Arab interest in what is happening in Syria

“During our meeting with the new Syrian administration, we touched on all issues, and this meeting will be the basis for preparing a report for all the member states on the situation in Syria,” Arab League Assistant Secretary-General, Hossam Zaki said.

Zaki added “Syria is a large and key Arab country and its security impacts the Arab national security. There is a widespread Arab interest in what is happening in Syria.”

The Assistant Secretary-General noted that the League has not yet discussed the situation in Syria collectively, and that work is being done with member states to ensure Syria’s participation in the upcoming meetings.

Zaki added “We demanded early after the fall of the previous regime to lift the sanctions imposed on Syria, and this is crucial for reviving the economy and fulfilling the aspirations of the Syrian people. The existence of these sanctions is no longer justified.”
