Sweida, Oct. 24 (SANA) Outlaw groups in Sweida southern city have completely closed the Sweida-Damascus highway in both directions on Saturday.
Qutaiba Azzam, director of media relations at Sweida Media Department, told SANA that the groups had closed both lanes at the Um al-Zaytoun checkpoint, which they control.
Meanwhile, Internal Security Forces continued to provide all necessary facilities at al-Matouna checkpoint.
Last Wednesday, the groups prevented around 100 employees from reaching their workplaces in the Soura al-Sughra area of the northern countryside after stopping them at the Um al-Zaytoun checkpoint.
Months earlier, they also prevented students from leaving the area to sit for national examinations. The groups have additionally continued their repeated attacks on security force positions in the western countryside.
On October 18, Sweida Governor Mustafa al-Bakour said residents were suffering from difficult living conditions and a breakdown in security amid the control of outlaw groups.
He pointed to threats and kidnappings, adding that the groups were obstructing efforts to find solutions in order to protect their own interests.
