Damascus, Oct. 13 (SANA) Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management Raed al-Saleh met Tuesday with Director-General of the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) Sabrina Dallafior to evaluate progress in destroying the ousted regime’s chemical weapons program.

The meeting, held in Damascus in the presence of Syria’s Permanent Representative to the OPCW Mohammad Katoub, addressed mechanisms to advance joint investigations and secure justice and accountability for victims of chemical attacks.

Minister al-Saleh stated on X that emergency and civil defense teams spent years documenting chemical attacks, collecting samples according to international standards, and sharing evidence with technical teams from the OPCW Secretariat.

Al-Saleh added that the ministry is pursuing a comprehensive national initiative led by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to completely eradicate the legacy of the deposed regime’s chemical warfare capability.

The discussion followed high-level talks held earlier Tuesday between OPCW officials, Foreign Minister Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani, and Defense Minister Murhaf Abu Qasra regarding technical measures underway to eliminate chemical remnants across Syria.
