Damascus, Sept. 28 (SANA) Syria’s Internal Security Forces arrested former MiG-29 pilot in the deposed regime army Khaldoun Hussein Mubarak in the Jableh countryside of Latakia province in coastal Syria, the forces said in a statement posted on their Telegram channel Sunday, due to his involvement in serious violations and war crimes against civilians.
The forces said Mubarak, a colonel in the army of the ousted regime, was arrested in a security operation targeting his hideout in the Jableh countryside.
According to the statement, Mubarak’s military records show that he served for years as a MiG-29 fighter pilot with Squadron 699 of Brigade 17, stationed at al-Seen Military Airport, before being promoted to colonel in 2023.
The Internal Security Forces said investigations indicated that Mubarak was involved in serious violations and war crimes against civilians through numerous combat sorties over several parts of Syria, particularly northern areas.
The forces said Mubarak was injured in 2020 after his aircraft was targeted by revolutionary forces in Idlib province. According to the statement, he returned to combat operations after recovering and continued serving until the fall of the deposed regime.
Investigations with Mubarak are continuing to complete the required legal procedures before his case is referred to the competent judiciary, the Internal Security Forces said.
Earlier Sunday, the Internal Security Forces arrested Brig. Gen. Jaber Mehrez Ibrahim, who had served as commander of the 138th Air Defense Brigade in Saida in the Daraa countryside during the rule of the ousted regime, following a surveillance and tracking operation.
