Damascus, Sept. 16 (SANA) Forty couples married in a mass wedding in al-Tall city on Tuesday under a community initiative aimed at helping young people start families and easing the financial burden of marriage amid rising housing and household costs.
Kamal Arnous, Chairman of the Board of the En’ash al-Faqir Association, told SANA that participants underwent preparatory courses before receiving support in the run-up to the wedding celebration.
Arnous said the association had also hosted a luncheon on Tuesday attended by around 10,000 residents and visitors in al-Tall. He said he hoped the initiative would help ease financial pressures and encourage young people to marry.
Issa Sinjab, one of the grooms, said the initiative was particularly helpful for young people with limited incomes who face difficulties covering the costs of marriage and starting a family amid challenging economic conditions.
The mass wedding revived a social tradition previously observed in towns across Damascus Countryside, highlighting the role of community solidarity and local initiatives in supporting young people seeking to start families.
