Damascus, Sept. 9 (SANA) Syria and Libya discussed the resumption of Libyan Airlines flights to Syria, including the operational requirements and procedures needed to restore air traffic between the two countries.

Director of Aviation Security at the General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport Ghayth Sulaiman and the Authority’s Director of International Cooperation Raafat Kanno held talks with a Libyan Airlines delegation headed by the airline’s Regional Director in Syria Mohammad Mahfouz Douma on ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination in air transport.

The Authority said via its Telegram channel Wednesday that the meeting, held at its headquarters in Damascus, addressed issues related to the air transport agreement signed between the two countries, Libyan Airlines’ desire to resume flights to Syria, as well as the necessary operational requirements and procedures.

The talks are aimed at facilitating the resumption of air traffic between Syria and Libya and strengthening air connectivity between the two countries, the Authority said.

Last week, a delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority conducted two field visits to Damascus and Aleppo international airports to review the procedures and measures in place ahead of the resumption of direct flights between Syria and Egypt.

A delegation from German airlines Eurowings and Lufthansa also visited Damascus International Airport last Wednesday to review the airport’s operational and technical conditions and discuss the operational and technical requirements needed to launch direct, regular flights between Syria and Germany, contributing to stronger air connectivity between the two countries.
