Damascus, Aug. 30 (SANA) The National Commission for Missing Persons (NCMP) held an event Sunday to mark the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, stressing the need for coordinated national and international efforts to determine the fate of missing people.
The event was attended by Justice Minister Mazhar al-Wais, NCMP Chairman Mohammad Reda Jalkhi, ambassadors, representatives of international and local organizations, and families of missing and forcibly disappeared people.
Participants called for stronger cooperation with families and international partners to support efforts to search for missing people, determine their fate, preserve their dignity and guarantee their families’ right to know the truth.
Speakers also discussed national efforts to address the issue and ways to develop a comprehensive response based on families’ rights and needs while strengthening coordination among relevant authorities.
The NCMP said families of the missing are key partners in the process, stressing that uncovering the truth remains a humanitarian and national responsibility.
Earlier Sunday, the commission launched the national “Athar” program for reporting missing and forcibly disappeared people through a mobile application and its website, providing families with a safe and accessible way to register information about missing relatives and submit reports.
