Islamabad, Aug. 20 (SANA) Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif reaffirmed his country’s steadfast support for Syria’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, as well as its firm backing for Damascus’ position on the occupied Golan, during a meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister and Expatriates Asaad Hassan al-Shaibani.
According to the Pakistani Prime Minister’s Office on X, Sharif recalled the longstanding and multifaceted relations between Pakistan and Syria, stressing the need to translate the two countries’ historic friendship into enhanced cooperation in the political, defense, trade, investment, education and human resources development fields.
Sharif also said that resuming direct flights between the two countries would contribute to increasing mutual visits and strengthening ties between their peoples.
For his part, al-Shaibani discussed bilateral relations with Sharif and ways to strengthen them across various fields, commending Pakistan’s constructive role in promoting regional peace and stability.
Al-Shaibani arrived in Islamabad on Wednesday at the head of a high-level delegation, marking the first visit by a Syrian foreign minister to Pakistan in 19 years.
