Deir Ezzor, Aug. 14 (SANA) Internal Security Forces in Deir Ezzor, in coordination with the Counter-Terrorism branch, have arrested Khaled Khalaf al-Ali, a former official of the deposed regime involved in suppressing peaceful protests, the security forces said Friday.

Al-Ali held the rank of first assistant in the State Security branch in Deir Ezzor and carried out intelligence duties, including managing the branch chief’s office and heading the religious affairs section responsible for monitoring mosques and preachers and compiling security reports on them.

Investigations have confirmed his direct field participation in suppressing civilian protesters from the start of the revolution, as well as fighting alongside deposed regime forces in several battles in Deir Ezzor. Legal procedures are being completed before his referral to the competent judiciary.

The Interior Ministry continues its efforts to pursue officials and members of the deposed regime and its militias involved in crimes and violations against the Syrian people, based on the principle of ending impunity, achieving transitional justice, and ensuring the rights of victims and their families.
