Syria activates ECMWF ecCharts platform to enhance early warning, weather forecasting
Syria's Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management has activated the ECMWF ecCharts platform to enhance early warning systems and weather forecasting capabilities.

Damascus, July 17 (SANA)    The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management announced on Friday the activation of the ECMWF ecCharts platform in Syria, a step aimed at enhancing the multi-hazard early warning system and upgrading the monitoring, analysis and forecasting capabilities of its National Meteorological Center, the ministry said.

The ecCharts platform provides access to the latest numerical weather prediction products from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF), including rainfall, wind, temperature and severe weather forecasts, as well as advanced interactive maps to support data-driven monitoring, analysis and decision-making.

These capabilities will be integrated into the national early warning system to improve forecast accuracy, enhance risk assessment, issue timely warnings, increase the readiness of operations centers and relevant authorities for effective response, and strengthen technical and operational integration between the National Meteorological Center and the national early warning platform.

The step is part of the ministry’s efforts to develop the national early warning infrastructure, adopt the latest global technologies and tools in meteorology and risk management, and strengthen cooperation with the World Meteorological Organization and international partners to protect lives and property and enhance Syria’s capacity to prepare for and mitigate the effects of hazards and disasters.
