Syrian People’s Assembly elects deputy speakers, secretary

Syrian People's Assembly elects deputy speakers, secretary

Damascus, July 12 (SANA)    Members of the Syrian People’s Assembly elected Mustafa Moussa as first deputy speaker, Madonna Bishara as second deputy speaker, and Mueyed Habib as secretary on Sunday, the Assembly said.

Moussa received 122 votes, while Bishara received 67 votes, with a total of 10 candidates competing for the two deputy speaker positions.

Mustafa Moussa is a representative from Idlib province. Since the beginning of the revolution, he has worked in relief, humanitarian and political fields, serving as head of the General Shura Council in the Idlib. He was also appointed as a member of the preparatory committee for the Syrian National Dialogue Conference. He holds a degree in pharmacy from a Jordanian university.

Madonna Bishara is a Syrian academic and researcher, holding a PhD in civil engineering. She is the head of the Construction Engineering and Management Department at the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Latakia University, with internationally published research, and is an active civil society activist.

Mueyed Habib is a representative from Daraya city in the Damascus countryside. He holds a university degree in political science and international relations, participated in the Syrian revolution since its outbreak, was wounded during battles with the deposed regime, and participated in the founding of the “Mukarbat” Center for Political Development and Studies.

Earlier today, the People’s Assembly held its first session in the presence of President Ahmad al-Sharaa, Chairman of the Higher Committee for Assembly Elections Mohammed al-Ahmad, 206 assembly members, and a number of ministers. Members took the oath of office and elected Abdul Hamid al-Awak as speaker of the Assembly.
