New York, June 29 (SANA) Chief of Syria’s General Intelligence Service Hussein al-Salamah said on Monday that the Syrian state has regained its sovereignty and independent decision-making following the liberation, and has rebuilt its national institutions and its regional and international relations.
“The fundamental course we emphasize today is Syria’s transition from a phase of crisis management to one of sustainable decision-making,” Al-Salamah, speaking at the Fourth Conference of Heads of Counter-Terrorism Agencies at United Nations HQ, said.
He added that Syria has set clear objectives that begin with protecting the country’s national security, contributing to the security of neighboring countries, and actively engaging in international counterterrorism efforts.
“We have focused on pursuing extremist organizations, cutting off their sources of financing, and strengthening security, judicial and intelligence cooperation with international partners,” Al-Salamah added.
He went on to say that Syria’s approach is not limited to the security dimension alone. It adopts a comprehensive humanitarian approach that places justice at the forefront of its priorities while addressing social and economic challenges in parallel.
“Syria today faces challenges and threats that extend beyond the terrorism of ISIS organization to include cells affiliated with the remnants of the Assad regime, others linked to Hezbollah militias, in addition to Israeli threats through incursions, shelling and the detention of civilians,” al-Salamah said.
He concluded by saying that Syria’s message today is clear; Syria of the future is committed to leading counterterrorism efforts on its territory in accordance with its national priorities and in line with international law. It remains open to international cooperation based on capacity building and the exchange of information.
