Aleppo, June 21 (SANA) Interior Ministry units in the city of Aleppo successfully arrested on Sunday Haytham Rahhal, who held the rank of Colonel in the Sednaya Military Prison during the era of the deposed regime.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the mentioned individual began his service in the “Red” Sednaya Prison with the rank of Captain, before assuming the position of security officer inside the prison and later being promoted to the rank of Colonel. Investigations point to his direct involvement in supervising torture operations and severe violations against detainees, in addition to overseeing the transfer of victims’ bodies to the Tishreen Military Hospital in Damascus.
Rahhal’s confessions showed that he supervised execution platforms in coordination with several military officials and field court judges, with the participation of the prison director at the time, Colonel Mahmoud Maatouk.
Investigation records indicate his reassignment across a number of security sites, including al-Balouni Prison in Homs in 2019, the Military Police Command in Damascus, and later the police branch in Deir Ezzor.
