Damascus, June 20 (SANA) Syrian Civil Defense teams have responded to 8,821 fires across Syria since the start of the year through June 19, according to figures released by the Civil Defense.
The Civil Defense, which operates under the Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management, said is a statement on Saturday that its teams responded to 5,266 fires between May 15 and June 19, including 1,156 in agricultural fields and crop areas.
The statement added that during the first 11 days of June alone, its teams responded to 1,981 fires, including 436 in agricultural lands, amid rising temperatures and the harvest season.
The Civil Defense renewed its call on citizens to avoid lighting fires in forested and agricultural areas, avoid discarding cigarette butts or glass containers near fields and woodlands, and remove dry vegetation safely to reduce fire risks.
The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management launched the “Your Awareness Is Your Action” campaign on May 14 to promote fire prevention measures aimed at protecting crops as well as public and private property during the harvest season.
