Damascus, May 18 (SANA)    Syria’s Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Kabawat, met Monday with the Executive Director of the Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Hadi bin Ali al-Yami, to discuss avenues for joint cooperation in social affairs.

The meeting, held at the ministry’s headquarters in Damascus, covered social protection issues, support for vulnerable groups including orphans, people with disabilities, and war-affected families, as well as mechanisms for women’s empowerment and strengthening their role in society.

Minister Kabawat affirmed the ministry’s commitment to developing its social policies in line with human rights standards, and praised the role the commission can play in capacity-building and training personnel working in the social welfare sector. She expressed hope that the meeting would be translated into cooperation agreements and joint training programs to enhance the effectiveness of Syrian social institutions.

Al-Yami presented the commission’s experience in supporting member states in developing national social protection strategies, and confirmed its readiness to provide expertise and training programs in this field, with the aim of contributing to sustainable development and the protection of human rights in Syria.

The Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission is one of the OIC’s principal bodies, serving as an advisory expert body to the Council of OIC Foreign Ministers, and operates independently with a focus on human rights issues of relevance to the organization’s member states.
